There is a lot involved when it comes to moving to Australia and one of the most complex areas always seems to be shipping to Australia. You need to ensure that when it comes to shipping your goods and personal effects to Australia that everything is organised and runs smoothly.
To make the shipping to Australia process that little bit easier the cargo reporting requirements were amended in January 2005. These amendments mean that all of the cargo that is shipped to Australia and intending on landing at any port or airport within Australia must be reported before the ship or aircraft arrives at its first Australian port or airport. This means that the Australian port or airport will have a record of what is coming in and will allow your goods and personal effects to be shipped to Australia easier.
These amendments will also allow the minimum period for lodging impending arrival, cargo and passenger reports for ships to be prescribed by regulation
The reporting regulations will be:
• 48 hours before arrival for voyages likely to take 48 hours or more; and
• 24 hours before arrival for voyages likely to take less than 48 hours
These amendments reflect the changing nature of the international trade environment and provide the flexibility to respond more promptly to security issues.
