Shipping to Australia – Household Goods and Personal Effects
All of your household goods and personal effects that you are shipping to Australia with you are going to be subject to Customs inspections and clearance. Items that you have owned for 12 months or less will more than likely become subject to inspection by Customs officials.
One household item that is guaranteed to be checked by customs is your refrigerator and any air conditioning equipment. The restrictions surrounding such items are higher than you think thanks to the Ozone Protection and Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989. Refrigeration or air-conditioning equipment that are charged with a CFC (R12) refrigerant are prohibited within Australia in compliance with the Ozone Protection and Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989. This includes the air-conditioning units within motor vehicles. Documentary evidence is required to show that the refrigerant has been evacuated and the relevant system parts have been removed.

A Customs form (B534) issue 6/00 Unaccompanied Baggage Statement must be signed and completed by the owner of the goods to clear the shipment when it arrives in Australia. Photocopies of passport pages including Australian entry stamp together with a full descriptive inventory in English are required to clear Customs. (Original passport may be required by Customs for car clearance).
