Is it time to move across town but the funds are somewhat limited. Not only can packing be stressful and time consuming, it can end up cost a lot of money if you are not careful. If you have never moved before, or are just looking for a way to make it more efficient this time around, here are a few helpful hints that will make packing and moving simpler and cheaper. Starting off by organizing and packing all of those smaller items in various places around the apartment or house. This is a task that won't completely make your living space unlivable for the time being, but will give you an extra head start when the actual move date arrives. Before packing away these items, locate a large amount of newsprint wrapping. This can be accomplished by simply holding onto the newspaper everyday for a few weeks or by asking any establishment if you can raid their recycling bin. Newsprint is cheap and perfect for wrapping up these smaller items, especially if they are breakable. Once they are packed, they can go into boxes with heavier items toward the bottom. If you have a large collection of books or other heavy objects, pack them in a series of smaller boxes rather than one huge box. The smaller boxes will be much easier to lift and maneuver. Boxes can be found for free at many different kinds of establishments. The most popular free box provider is often the liquor store, but you can also find boxes being thrown out by law firms, book stores, supermarkets, and more.
As you approach the moving date, you will need to get started on dishes and kitchenware. Dish towels, pot holders, cushions, and other cloth materials found around the kitchen can be used to protect dishes, glasses, etc, and some newprint will work as well. Once you have all of the smaller pieces packed, you can begin to think about fixtures and furniture. If you have a friend with a truck or are just planning to rent one for the day, you can use comforters, sheets, blankets, and quilts to protect your furniture pieces on the way over. A trip with furniture to the new house should be taken slowly and cautiously. Make sure that everything is securely tied down so that you do not damage your furniture or anything else.
Sometimes people forget about the ordeal of transporting their wardrobes. Though some may have smaller collections, the average wardrobe including summer and winter clothes will take up quite a lot of space and can be very awkward to move. Wardrobe boxes are obvious solutions, but there are definitely cheaper routes, especially if you are only going across town. A simple method is to tie sections of ten or so clothes hangers together to create bunches of clothes that can then be lowered into trash bags. Then tie the trash bags around the hooks of the hangers. This works great for putting in place in the new place because they are all ready to be hung in closets again, just remove the bags from the plastic hangers. This method can save so much time and energy.
Really, these three simple steps can encompass the entire moving process, as long as you do not leave things out along the way. It also makes moving seem a little less daunting. You only have a few steps and you are there, and if you can pack up some small things early while watching TV or whatever, you will be surprised how easy moving day will be.
