If you end up making the wrong decision about where to live in New Zealand your mistake will end up being a pricey one. It is important that you research into different areas with New Zealand and, if possible, you should go and visit as many of these places as you can.
New Zealand can be separated into two islands, which are basically known as North and South. Within the North of the island there are two main places, known as Auckland, which is based at the top of the North Island and Wellington, which is based at the bottom. Auckland has a population that is reaching one million. The suburbs of Auckland sprawl for miles, meaning that if you work in the city centre you will have a bit of a drive into the city centre. Many of the homes based in Auckland are overlooking the sea, however these houses can be quite expensive and you should think realistically as to whether you can afford it.
One of the main activities within Auckland is sailing and the city is often referred to as the city of sails. As well as this Auckland is often described as being very cosmopolitan with the city centre being very modern and made of tall glass buildings. Also one of the main features of Auckland is the Harbour Bridge, which can be quite over whelming the first time as it has eight lanes.
Wellington is the second main city within the north Island of New Zealand; it is based at the bottom of the Island and roughly has a population of 350,000. Wellington is the capital of the north Island and is the location of New Zealand’s Government buildings. It also has one of the most modern skylines of New Zealand thanks to its many modern high rise office buildings.
The housing within Wellington differs to that seen in Auckland as many of the houses of terraced and are built into the hillside. Many people have often compared Wellington to San Francisco due to its housing and the fact that Wellington has a commuter train service running through the city.
There are also a lot of shopping malls within Wellington where most of the shops and facilities are based underground.
