One of the restrictions that is in place within Singapore is the labelling of food packaging. There are certain things that need to be placed on this food labelling. This includes the name of the product, the ingredients, colouring, quantity of contents and the name and address of the manufacturer or importer as well as the expiry date of the product.
Singapore is classed as essentially a free port as very few gods are dutiable or under control; however as of July 1st 2007 all goods that are imported to Singapore are subject to a 7% goods and service tax, known in short as GST. The main dutiable items include petroleum products, motor vehicles, liquor and tobacco.
Controlled items in Singapore include animals, meat products, plants, weapons, explosives, medicines, pharmaceuticals and film and telecommunications equipment.
Another important thing to keep in mind when it comes to shipping to Singapore is that you need to obtain permits. You must obtain import/export permits from Singapore Customs for every shipment of goods. If your goods are also “controlled goods”, your permit application will also be routed to the “competent authority” for approval.
