If you are shipping your belongings to Cyprus there are restrictions surrounding certain items, an example of one of these are inheritance items. The restrictions surrounding the shipping of inheritance items only apply to items that are coming from non EU countries.
Although these items are shipped duty free you are obliged to have certain documents in order for them to be shipped successfully. You will need:
- Packing List.
- Shipper’s passport
- House contract showing rental or
purchase of property
- Letter from employer confirming his
employment if working in Cyprus
- Letter from Children’s school
confirming their registration
These are the basis documents that are needed for all of your items that are being shipped to Cyprus by non EU countries. You need these as well as a copy
of the will of the deceased, certified by the Consulate at origin, or other legal proof for indisposed legacies.
If you are hoping to ship antiques and works of art from non EU countries to Cyprus you will need a ‘Certificate of Provenance,’ which, if you are from the UK will be issues by either London and Provincial Antique Dealers Association, British Antique Dealers Association or a similarly accredited National association. If you are shipping to Cyprus from another county you will get your ‘Certificate of Provenance’ from an Auction House in your country of origin.
One of the main aspects that have restrictions placed upon them is for the shipment of plants, these restrictions are evident in most countries. In Cyprus, it is extremely difficult to obtain an import licence for live plants in general. Importation, other than for commercial purposes, is not recommended. You will need two pieces of documentation. These pieces of documentation are a Phytosanitary Certificate and an import licence.
When it comes to firearms and importing them into Cyprus you are allowed to bring certain ones into the country under restrictions. All other firearms, which include auto or pump action shotguns are strictly prohibited from being brought into Cyprus. Narcotics and drugs from all countries are prohibited from being shipped to Cyprus. Alcohol, food and weapons are also restricted from being brought to Cyprus and if you need to import these items it is essential that you contact Overs to find out if you are able to.
