Moving house can be a very daunting task. Something like packing your life up and heading towards the void. The actual relocation itself can be quite confusing and stressful. There are some things you can do to make this process a little more comfortable, and your whole moving experience not at all the nightmare it could have been.
Most significant would have to be choosing the right company for your requirements in the first place.
Your primary concern should be what and how many of the things around you are going along to your new destination. Then determine how much of the packing you are willing or able to partake. This is required to be able to obtain your accurate quotes from companies that cater to your needs.
Naturally, cost is a contributing factor when selecting any service. Your quote must be presented in writing, never accept a verbal agreement as your given quote. Importantly, your quote should also be provided only from a company who has thoroughly estimated the job in person.
Don’t be fooled by the “free telephone” quote, this is not an accurate quote but more a blank ticket from some operator that may see the opportunity to fool you into believing they are the cheapest; that is until the, “that’s more that we were quoted” and “We didn’t count that” extras. Certainly “extras” may even include possible location parking problems. Ask the companies you have selected to provide your quote to clarify any such concerns if this may be a possibility, be sure to mention stairs and other possible obstacles.
Other aspects you should also consider when selecting your moving company and the service it provides for your money are what types of payment they will accept, whether it is cash, credit card, or personal check, and when is payment required.
Establish if you will be given a confirmed delivery time. And if your moving company will disassemble and reassemble items that require this treatment.
You company's reputation can go a long way in settling your moving experience concerns. Don’t forget to ask your family and friends of their opinion with moving companies they may have used the services of in the past. Word of mouth is a very useful tool in establishing your moving company's true worth and rightful reputation.
When you are fairly certain of which moving company may be right for your relocation needs, you should contact your local BBB or Better Business Bureau to inquire of any past or present issues regarding complaints and resolution.
It is also very important at this stage to check your selected companies DOT number, a requirement for all moving companies. Interstate moving companies are also required to publish their price list and have it readily available upon request. They are also required participate in a dispute resolution program in the event of loss or damage in transit.
All licensed movers are required to provide liability insurance. Be sure that you understand the level of protection and the process involved in the event of a claim. Forewarned is forearmed.
Good luck and best wishes for your moving experience.
