The Domesday Bookrecords a population made up of 10 villagers and 4 smallholders.
1222
Peasants are ordered to work 3 days a week on the manor of Barnes by Robert the Dean.

100 Parliamentarian soldiers are billeted in the village during the English Civil War.
1665
18 people are killed by plague. In nearby Mortlake the death toll exceeds 300.
