    5 Quickfire Edgeware Facts

    1. Posh Pad
The first Duke of Chandos, James Brydges was worth a bob or two. In 1713 he set about building a palace for himself in Edgeware named Canon’s Park for £250,000. That’s the equivalent of around £40,000,000 in today’s money and at the time was considered to be the most expensive house in Europe!
    2. The Name Game
Edgware’s name comes from the Saxon and means Ecgi’s weir. Ecgi was a Saxon leader and the weir was actually a pond where his followers caught fish. The area remained almost all forest until the 13th century when agriculture took over. By the 16th century, a great deal of the forest had been turned to farmland.
    3. Fit For Heroes
After WWI, Charles Right Ltd moved their factory to Edgeware, they produced 2,000,000 medals for servicemen who fought in the war. They also designed and manufactured number plates, today’s number plates are still based on their ‘K-type’ design.
    4. Well Trained
Edgeware Tube station is the last stop on the line for many trains. Sitting in Zone 5 of TfL, the journey takes around 24 minutes to get into London but the best part of commuting from Edgeware is that you’re pretty much guaranteed to always get a seat.
    5. Highway Robbery
Edgware was just one area in and out of London that was plagued by highwaymen. The most famous robber of them all, Dick Turpin committed a number of daylight robberies here and while he might be considered a figure of folklore now, Turpin was as bad as they came. In February 1735, he and his gang attacked Earlsbury Farm where 70-year-old farmer Joseph Lawrence was beaten and burnt to death.

    Thank You Over’s

See what Over’s customers are saying…

Darryn and Kyle, the two removal men were just brilliant in carrying out their duties. Nothing was too much trouble. They are an asset to your company and great Ambassadors for your business. My wife and I felt on occasions they went above and beyond the normal service and went out of their way to help ease the process and stress of moving.

    - Andy Cookson – June 2021

The two crew movers that moved me are exceptional. Polite, hardworking, and professional. Nothing was too much, no problems or complaints. They packed, moved me out, and moved me in. Constantly ensuring everything was where I wanted it and fine tune placement of my items. I could not have moved in without their, and the team at Armishaws efforts. Thank you for getting (injured) me, and my family in our new home safe and complete.

    - Alan Edmunds - June 2021

Excellent removals experience on a two day local move in Somerset. Despite hail, the removals men did a fantastic job, and kept a sense of humour throughout. Nothing was too much trouble putting things where we wanted them in various sheds when we arrived. Toby and Ben made the experience SO much more fun, and less stressful. Cannot recommend them too highly.

    - Helen Williams – May 2021
