It’s believed a number of religious buildings probably occupied Harrow’s famous hill over the centuries, both pagan and Christian.
1086
Herges appears listed in the Doomsday Book with 117 households, 102 villagers, 2 cottagers, 2 slaves, 1 priest and woodland for 2000 pigs.
1310
Headstone Manor is established.
1336
Both a market and Pinner fair are granted in a charter by King Edward III.
1381
The Peasants’ Revolt results in widespread rioting across the borough including attacks on the unpopular Archbishop of Canterbury’s property.
1572
Harrow School is founded.
1794
Daniel Dancer dies in the town. Tales of his miserly life become national news and he inspires Charles Dicken’s ‘Scrooge’.
1837
Harrow & Wealdstone station opens as part of the West Coast Main Line.
1916
Local boy, Lieutenant Leefe Robinson brings down the first German zeppelin over the skies of London.
1940
In August, German bombers damage to cinemas, houses and a bank but no fatalities are recorded.

Bentley Priory in Stanmore is used as the operational headquarters of the Royal Air Force during the Battle of Britain.
